Award for course teaching students about policing
AN INNOVATIVE police recruitment training programme between the University of Portsmouth and Surrey Police has won an award.
The scheme has received the Excellence in Policing http://burberrystore.michikusa.jp/ (EIP) trophy at the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) EIP Awards.
It is the first scheme in http://burberrysale.masa-mune.jp/ the country under which students cover part of the syllabus for initial police training バーバリー 財布 while still undergraduates at university.
They learn about the concepts of law, police powers of arrest and the social context of policing.
Those who complete all elements of the course and who are selected as recruits by Surrey Police will potentially be 14 weeks ahead of their peers when starting their training.
This represents a significant financial saving for the force and means recruits will become police officers faster.
Since the scheme launched, more than 80 eligible students studying criminology and criminal justice studies, criminology and forensic studies, law and criminology and sociology and criminology have started the course.
The scheme was pioneered by the University's Institute of Criminal Justice Studies. Its director Steve Savage said: 'We hope the ACPO award will encourage other forces around the country to adopt the scheme.'
Chief Superintendent Neil Boon, of Surrey Police said: 'By putting police officer training into academic institutions, police officer training will be more transparent and we are looking forward to monitoring the scheme over the coming months and seeing some great results from the new recruits in their future careers.'
